Open Litria

Terms of service

Last updated October 7, 2026

These terms cover your use of Litria: the web app, the desktop app, and the Litria sign-in service. Litria is a Freedom! product, run by Freedom! Family Limited ("we" or "us"). By using Litria, you agree to these terms. The privacy policy, linked at the foot of this page, says what Litria keeps and where.

Litria is in Beta

Litria is an early, pre-release version. Features may change, break or go away, and the service may be unavailable at times. Keep your own backups of your photos: Litria is not one.

Litria is free while it is in Beta.

Your photos are yours

Litria opens the folders you choose and works on your photos on your own computer, in your browser or the desktop app. It never moves, renames or overwrites a photo. Your edits are kept in your browser's or the desktop app's storage, and Litria writes a backup of them into a .litria folder inside each folder you add, or into a backup folder you choose.

You keep all rights to your photos and your edits, and we claim no ownership of them. Litria never uploads them, except the copies you choose to publish, described next.

When you publish photos, Litria uploads a copy of each photo you pick to the storage it uses for published photos, and shows it to the people that photo's setting allows: only you, anyone with the link, or everyone. You let us keep and show those copies only for that, and we delete a copy when you unpublish its photo or its album. Publish only photos you have the right to share.

Your account

You can use Litria without an account. Signing in uses your Google account, so keep that account secure. You are responsible for what is done with your Litria account.

Acceptable use

Don't use Litria to break the law or to infringe anyone's rights, including by publishing photos that aren't yours to share, or that harass people or sexually exploit anyone.

Don't try to get into another person's account, get around sign-in limits or publishing quotas, or overload, probe or disrupt Litria's server.

Ending your account

You can stop using Litria at any time. To delete your account, open Settings, then Account, and choose Delete account. Unpublish your albums first: Litria won't delete an account that still has published albums. Deleting your account leaves the photos and edits on your device as they were.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk, and we will tell you why where we can. We may also change or stop the service. None of this touches the photos and edits on your device.

No warranty

We provide Litria "as is". That means we make no promises about it beyond what these terms say: not that it works without errors, that it suits what you want to use it for, that it is always available, or that it never loses data. Some countries do not allow a service to give up all of these promises, so where you live some of them may still apply, and nothing here takes away your rights as a consumer.

Limits on our liability

Litria is free. If something goes wrong and we owe you money because of Litria, the most we will pay is US$100. If you have paid us for Litria, the most is what you paid in the past 12 months, if that is more than US$100. We are also not responsible for knock-on losses, such as lost income or business, that come from using Litria or not being able to. Litria never holds your original photos, and your edits stay on your device, so we cannot restore either one: keep your own backups. None of these limits apply if we act dishonestly, cause harm on purpose or through serious carelessness, or cause death or injury through carelessness, or where the law where you live does not allow them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong. If we disagree about them, we will first try to settle it by talking in good faith or through arbitration. Anything left unsettled goes to the courts of Hong Kong.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. If you keep using Litria after a change, the new terms apply.
